Preparing for a new #Salesforce Consultant role Tip 12

Preparing for a new #Salesforce Consultant role
𝗧𝗶𝗽 𝟭𝟮 𝗼𝗳 𝟭𝟮 – 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

I think it’s quite a simple but incredibly important tip – not just for newbies, but for anyone walking into an unfamiliar situation.

I used to wonder what I’d do if I was kidnapped by an alien and brought to an alien world. 👽
How would I survive?

Ok, if I manage to not get eaten or killed by poisonous atmosphere or creature, then my first task is to observe my surroundings and gauge how to get what I need (food, water, transportation, friendly ally) without endangering myself. 😵

I apply the same concept in my work life; whether I’ve just started a new role, or an unfamiliar project team with new clients.

Pay attention to
– how things are done
– what’s the culture like
– who’s in charge
– who thinks they are in charge but aren’t 🤨
– who’s really in charge
– who truly influences outcome
– who is quiet, but (like you) is absorbing everything
– how the team functions
– what they get right, which accelerates their progress
– what they get wrong, which hinders them
– how conflict happen
– how it’s resolved
… you get the picture.

There’s nothing worse than a tone-deaf bumbling buttmunch charging into situations without being aware of what’s happening.

You don’t want to be _that_ person. 👀

Regardless of how long you’ve been around the block (and I’ve been around the #CRM consulting block for quite awhile, #Salesforce is just the latest one) you cannot assume that you know what’s going to happen – see Tip 11 link in comments 👇🏻)

Things can still surprise you, and that’s the one thing that you want to minimise.
#SalesforceConsultant is always prepared, and if you want to ding out of your #noob level, then start by observing your surroundings and the people around you.

Observe
Evaluate
Emulate or Discard

That’s called #CriticalThinking – which I drill into my team time and time again, because that’s what separates the donuts and the donut holes.

Obviously, you want to be the 🍩
😁

So, #BeMoreSponge. Not Spongebob Squarepants™!
