Sometimes it is easier to type than to talk

Sometimes it is easier to type than to talk.

Tonight, I am on a webchat shift at Duty Station 3.
Webchat is a new channel that #Samaritans is piloting to provide another channel for our callers to reach out for help.

Sometimes
–  the emotions are so overwhelming that it’s difficult to vocalize the words
–  anxiety and fear can be too much to bear
–  the caller may not be in a position to speak on the phone
– they may be in a public space and may be overheard
– their safety could be compromised if they are overheard

#Suicide is the biggest killer of young people aged 24-30.
Worryingly, suicide rate is also going up amongst 15-19 years old.

The way people communicate and connect is changing, and Samaritans is changing too.

This new service is discreet, and can be done from anywhere in the world. However, it is still currently in its pilot stage and has yet to be rolled out to all branches.

If you urgently need to speak to someone, you can call Samaritans freephone 116 123 from the UK, or email jo@samaritans.org.

There’ll always be someone on the other side of the phone to talk to you.

You don’t have to be alone. 🌹
