Getting expectations right is the key to happiness.
Why do you want to join a Tier 1 Salesforce partner and consulting firm?
Say at one of the Big Four’s?
It won’t be a walk in the park, that’s for sure.
When someone has a complex, gnarley problem to solve, or an ambitious global programme of work with integrations, legacy systems, multil language, multi lingual, multi-cultural stakeholders, you know they will won’t go for the little guy.
What that means is that you need to expect that most of the projects you will get will be “character-building” ones.
Ones that take you out of your comfortzone. Big time.
Ones that create frustration, excitement, disappointment, delight, anxiety, despair, and a whole mixed-bag of emotions.
Ones that make you grow, and learn, and stretch. In ways you hadn’t realised you could, or wanted to.
Ones that make you, or break you.
If you can fall down, and get up, and you just keep pushing through, you will find the rewards are amazing.
Repeat it enough, and you build resilience.
Something that can take you far in life.
That only really works if you know what to expect, and you’re prepared for it.
If you join one of the Big Boys, and expect a cushy job, with stress-free projects that are light, and fun, then you will be in for a big disappointment.
Understand your expectations.
That way, you’ll be able to navigate life more easily*.
*can’t expect to eat cake and not have it go to my hips 😭
