“Low and slow.”

“Low and slow.”

That’s the simple trick I use to de-escalate and defuse charged situations.

It also stands me well when I’m on my volunteering shift with #Samaritans, a non profit in the UK that supports callers who are feeling suicidal.

Regardless of what’s going on on the other end of the line, I will speak in a calm voice. 🧘

I keep it low and slow.

Most of the time, my caller will start to calm down and will eventually match my pace and tone.

I’m currently training the fall cohort of new Sam volunteers and they’ve told me that remembering my “low and slow” mantra had been incredibly helpful for their skills practice. 😁

Anyway, this isn’t as cool as the trick to lose one inch of belly fat in 2 weeks but I hope you’ve found it helpful!

Do you have a trick you use to deal with conflict?
